Il y a 110 ans, une carte reçue par mon arrière-grand-mère... La vieille année 1902, sa besace pleine des affaires politiques et religieuses, prodigue de bons conseils à la toute jeune année 1903 ! Ce qui est très drôle, c'est que Gaëlle a la même dans sa collection !

110 years ago, a card received by my great-grandmother... the old year 1902, with her bag full of religious and political affairs, advises the new-born 1903 to be wiser than her! And you know what? Gaëlle showed the same card from her own collection! What fun!

Aujourd'hui aux Etat-Unis, c'est la fête de Thanksgiving. Je vous renvoie à cet article pour rappeler la signification de cette célébration familiale si importante pour les Américains. Ma grand-mère recevait toujours de de son amie américaine des cartes à cette occasion, comme celle-ci, reçue en 1927.

Today our friends in the United States are celebrating Thanksgiving, a most important celebration over there, as I already mentionned it last year. My Grandma's american penfriend used to send her cards for this special occasion. Here's one she received in 1927.

La tarte au potiron sera très certainement au menu de presque toutes les tables aujourd'hui aux Etats-Unis, car c'est le dessert traditionnel de Thanksgiving. Je vous en propose une recette ici, si vous voulez vous aussi déguster cette délicieuse tarte !

Aujourd'hui c'est la célébration de Thanksgiving pour les Américains, une fête d'actions de grâce pour les bonnes récoltes dont l'origine remonte à 1621 et évoque le souvenir des premiers pionniers américains et l'aide qu'ils reçurent des Indiens Wampanoag. Ma grand-mère a entretenu pendant 85 ans (de 1923 à 2008... je vous reparlerai de cette magnifique histoire) une correspondance avec une amie américaine qui, même si Thanksgiving n'est bien sûr pas célébré en France, ne manquait pas de lui envoyer des cartes à cette occasion. En voici une, reçue par ma grand-mère en 1929.

Today is Thanksgiving Day for all Americans. This celebration for good harvests dates back to 1621 and recalls the first pilgrims and the help they got from the Wampanoag Native Americans who gave them seeds and taught them to fish. My grand-mother kept up for 85 years (from 1923 to 2008... I will tell you about this stunning story one day) a correspondence with an American friend . Even if Thanksgiving was obviously not celebrated in France, she used to send nice cards to my grand-mother for this special occasion. Here's one she received in 1929.

Le repas traditionnel de Thanksgiving contient en outre de la dinde rôtie et une tarte au potiron. Alors si vous ne connaissez pas ce dessert, c'est l'occasion de vous lancer, c'est simplissime et délicieux ! 

Roasted turkey and pumpkin pie are traditionnal dishes for Thanksgiving. If you've never tried the pumkin pie, do jump on the occasion, it's delicious and so easy to make!

Un fond de pâte brisée. Mélangez 7 cl de lait, 7 cl de crème fraîche, 75 g de cassonnade, 2 oeufs battus, des 4 épices selon votre goût, 300 g de purée de potiron, un peu de rhum. Cuire 45 mn environ à 220°.

Shortcrust pastry; mix 7 cl milk, 7cl cream, 75 g brown sugar, 2 eggs beaten, allspice to taste, 300 g pumpkin purée, a little rum. Cook for about 45 mn, at 200°C.
